Louis Vuitton airs campaign featuring the best dressed Briton of all time.

David Bowie was recently considered the best dressed Briton of all time by BBC History magazine in a recent survey organised by this magazine. “”Bowie had to overcome a king, two queens and a political heavyweight to triumph in our poll, and in doing so has struck a blow for 20th and 21st-century fashions”, the magazine’s editor, Rob Attar told The Independent. Much of the reason for this is related to the “Bowie is” exhibition which started at the Victoria & Albert Museum in May 2013. This comprehensive exhibition featured all the looks from the many personas Bowie gave us, from Ziggy Stardust to the Thin White Duke through to A Lad InSane, alien in “The men who fell to earth” and decadent gigolo in “Just a Gigolo”, along with the outfits created by renowned fashion designers, of which the most striking are those designed by Kensai Yamamoto.

The visual impact of Bowie and the natural elegance of the man also known as the Chameleon make him one of the most sought after artists for ads and the like, of which Bowie has refused to a great extend, with there being very few examples of advertising campaigns featuring the man. But Louis Vuitton did it and got him to be part of its new campaign “L’Invitation au Voyage”. The short movie now being aired was directed by Romain Gavras last summer in Venice and features American model Arizona Muse visiting the Louvre in Paris before travelling to Venice in a hot-air balloon where she meets Bowie singing ‘I’d Rather Be High’. The video is a great production with huge visual impact. As for the song chosen, and despite the hapsicord sound that fits perfectly in the short film’s imagery and scenario, it is not his most striking. “Fantastic voyage” would have been a more suited one. Perhaps for another less conservative brand in an ad unleashing a greater visual impact from the man and his songs.
